Legendary British golfer designs the new golf course at Secret Valley!
Born Scunthorpe, July 1944, Tony Jacklin became a superstar when he won the Open at Lytham in 1969 and followed it up with a stunning success in the US Open at Hazeltine 12 months later, an achievement that no European golfer has been able to match since. In the 1980s, Jacklin’s outstanding captaincy of Europe’s Ryder Cup team on three occasions revitalised the event and made him the most dominant team leader the event has seen.
Tony Jacklin is boosting his increasingly impressive profile as a course designer with the announcement that he is to design a second golf complex in Cyprus.
Jacklin, who remains the only post-war British or European golfer to have won both the Open and US Open, has been asked to replace the existing 18 holes at Secret Valley with two completely new 18-hole golf courses, thus forming a 36-hole golf complex integrated within the recently redesigned Venus Rock Golf Resort.
Venus Rock Golf Resort, which is destined to become of Europe’s largest leisure-integrated residential resorts, is located in a stunning river valley, with a reservoir at its head, only a 15-minute drive from the international airport and main town of Paphos. Next door is Aphrodite Hills, south-eastern Europe’s first and, currently, only golf-integrated residential resort. Nearby are two similar quality-integrated resort developments spearheaded by Dolphin Capital Investors, the leading investor in the residential resort sector in south-eastern Europe. The Jacklin Design Group will work on the project in collaboration with Austrian architect, Hans-Georg Erhardt.
Speculation has been mounting that the growth of the Jacklin Design Group may signal the end of his competitive playing career and that next week’s Open at Carnoustie could be his last. The 63-year-old is particularly delighted that The Concession, the Florida layout he masterminded in partnership with Jack Nicklaus, was recently named Golf Digest’s Top New Course of 2006.
“I’m thrilled that The Concession has proved such a hit,” enthused Tony, “and I’m looking forward to creating a fantastic experience at Venus Rock. As I’m playing competitive golf less often now, I’ll be able to spend my time working with Hans-Georg Erhardt and the team at Aristo Developers to create something very special in Cyprus – a first-class golf complex that everyone can enjoy.”
Aristo Developers, a Paphos company which is part of Dolphin Capital Investors, are the owners and operators of Venus Rock Golf Resort. It will be Tony Jacklin’s second Cyprus project for the group, following the announcement made two months ago concerning the first.
Mr Theodoros Aristodemou, CEO of Aristo Developers, said: “We are very much looking forward to teaming up with the Jacklin Design Group at Venus Rock. We are confident that the Jacklin brand will vitalize the region and mobilize enormous support and interest in Aristo’s and Dolphin’s collaborative efforts to create one of Europe’s largest premium-banded residential resorts.”
Jacklin Design Group and Hans-Georg Erhardt will replace the present 18 holes at the existing Secret Valley golf complex with two new courses using new and existing land to form the new Venus Rock Golf Resort. And the good news is that construction will be phased so that 18 holes remain in play for members and visitors at all times.

The Orams case.
12-12-2006
Statement ragarding the Northern Cyprus properties.
With regard to today’s judgement by the English High Court in the case Orams v. Apostolides, primarily I would like to point out the fact that the English Court was unwilling and stated it had no jurisdiction to get involved in enforcing Cyprus court judgements against those who illegally occupy Greek Cypriot property. According to the British judge, enforcing such judgements was «an international problem ill-suited to be resolved by private litigation». The judge indicated that the European Court of Human Rights, with Turkey as the defendant, was the proper place.
I would like to point out and underline the following from the relevant judgement of the English High Court:
-First, that the land in the so-called “TRNC” is “within the Republic of Cyprus”.
-Second, the Cyprus Courts have jurisdiction over all land situated in the Republic’s territory.
-Third, Greek Cypriot owners of property in the Turkish-occupied area remain owners of their land.
-Fourth, laws of the “TRNC” cannot deprive owners of their title to the land.
-Fifth, persons who purport to buy or occupy land belonging to displaced Greek Cypriot owners (the true title-holders) are trespassers and must be treated as trespassers.
·The judge gives a number of technical interpretations of Protocol No. 10 to the EU Treaty and Regulation 44/2001. He held that the acquis communautaire was “of no effect in relation to matters which relate to the area controlled by the “TRNC”.
·What his judgement in practice meant was that he would not apply a quick EU procedure for all EU States’ Courts, to recognize and enforce the civil judgements of another EU state.
·Even if he was wrong, and the procedure applied, the judge found exceptional circumstances existed. He held Mrs. Orams did not have sufficient time in 13 days to arrange for her defence. He considered she would have difficulty in finding a Greek-speaking lawyer because she lived in the occupied area and doubted if she could have found a Greek Cypriot lawyer in the south.
I consider this allegation an insult to the Cypriot legal profession.
·Mr. Apostolides has obtained leave to appeal against the judgment by the High Court Judge to the English Court of Appeal. There can also be reference to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
·In the meanwhile, there are other procedures which Mr. Apostolides can use to enforce a judgment he has obtained from the Cyprus Courts.
·Whatever the technicalities, the judgment makes it clear that people who disregard the rights of owners of land will be trespassers and are liable to be sued.
In summary, I would like to underline that:
1.Greek Cypriots remain owners of their land in the occupied area. The Court upheld the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights.
2.Persons who illegally occupy property and claim to be “new owners” are not owners but trespassers, and must be treated as such. They commit the tort of trespass.
3.On procedural grounds, the default judgement against the Orams cannot be used to get accelerated enforcement in England.
4.Other procedures allowing enforcement in England remain open to Mr. Apostolides.
5.There is an appeal to the English Court of Appeal on the technical points about EU enforcement procedures. But the matter will finally be decided in Luxembourg after reference by the Court of Appeal.
6.In the meanwhile, any person who buys or occupies property they do not own is acting unlawfully, is a trespasser, and can be sued for trespass.

Notice For Northern Cyprus Property
18-07-2005
The British High Commission State "Cyprus Property issues are closely linked to the political situation.
There are a number of potential practical, financial and legal complicationa, particularly for those considering buying property in the north. There is a risk that purchaser would face legal proceedings in the courts of the Republic Of Cyprus."
Sales of property in the occupied area of Cyprus have frozen due the latest ruling against Mr. and Mrs. Orams.
Deciding that the villa should be knocked down and the land to be given to the rightful Greek Cypriot owner. Also scared are Brits who have already bought on land of Greek Cypriots, that they may be also placed in the same position of the Orams.
After the new law that all properties sold in the occupied side of Cyprus should be leasehold and not freehold there has been a commotion from the British investors and sales have frozen.
It is also worth mentioning that similar cases like the above are another 6000 cases in which Brits have bought property which has been built on Greek Cypriot land.
The European Court of Human Rights ruling affirmed the rights of Greek Cypriots to their property in the north.
Therefore, Britons and other nationalities who purchased Cyprus property in the north stand to lose big time in the event of a settlement, and could also be liable to compensate the rightful owners of the property.
British High Commission spokesman Stewart Summers confirmed that a recent warning about buying property in the north added to the Foreign Office travel advisory of an increase in numbers of Britons making enquiries on house buying in the occupied areas.
The amendment to a website, instigated by Mr. Summers, was made last month, and the advice on buying property follows immediately after the British government’s recommendations on visiting northern Cyprus.
It reads: “The non-recognition of the ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ and the possibility of a future political settlement in Cyprus could have implications for those considering buying northern Cyprus properties. Before purchasing a northern Cyprus property you are advised to appraise yourself fully of the situation and seek legal advice.”
Summers said, “The government has decided to take a more pro-active, rather than reactive approach (to the subject of buying property in the north of Cyprus) in the light of it becoming a more regular occurrence, and the subsequent attention it has received in the media.”
Commenting on the change, he added, “legally we can’t tell people ‘don’t do it’, but we are trying to make them fully aware of the potential hazards.”
